That's my parents, Evelyn and Edward Gersh, on "boat leave", September 1944.  He served primarily in Newport Rhode Island, training fire fighters for the US Navy.  He had been a New York City fireman since 1939, so it was obvious duty for him.   This photo sat on my father's desk my whole life.
